Women's Lacrosse Loses at No. 13 Michigan

ANN ARBOR, Mich. – Rutgers women's lacrosse (8-9, 2-6) lost at No. 13 Michigan (12-5, 5-3), 12-9, on Saturday afternoon in Ann Arbor. With the Scarlet Knights trailing just 9-8 late in the third quarter, the Wolverines closed the game with a 3-1 scoring run to secure their Big Ten Conference win at U-M Lacrosse Stadium.
Rookies Caroline Ling and Delainey Sutley both registered hat tricks in the loss, finishing as two of five goal scorers for RU. Senior captain Emalie Clothier caused two turnovers, while graduate student goalkeeper Lexie Coldiron produced nine saves in cage.
With the loss, Rutgers will be the No. 7 seed at next week's Big Ten Tournament, hosted April 23-27 in College Park, Maryland.
Rutgers struck first in the opening five minutes thanks to sophomore Kayleigh Coughlin, who finished an unassisted score for a 1-0 lead at the 11:10 mark in the quarter. However, Michigan closed the period with three consecutive goals and add another in the second for a 4-1 lead.
The Scarlet Knights registered their first rally of the day with a 3-0 scoring run sparked by Ling and Sutley. Sutley scored twice during a stretch, including an unassisted finish with 2:34 left in the half. UM added a late goal to take a 5-4 lead into the locker room.
The Wolverines jumped out to a 9-4 lead out of the break before RU produced another scoring rally. Four different Scarlet Knights scored during the stretch, with Ling's second of the afternoon pulling Rutgers to within one late in the third quarter.
After Michigan netted back-to-back goals, Ling's third score made it a two-goal game with 9:37 to play. However, The Wolverines held RU off the board in the final nine minutes of action to earn the victory.
