Apr 06 | Women's Lacrosse
PISCATAWAY, N.J. – Rutgers women's lacrosse (8-6, 2-3) lost to No. 3 Northwestern (11-2, 5-0), 15-6, on Sunday at SHI Stadium.
Prior to the game, the program recognized its 2025 senior class - Makenna Boutin, Lexie Coldiron, Emalie Clothier, Alexa Corbin, Victoria Goldrick, Madison Karpe, Kelsey Klein, Lauren Messinese, Tori Shenk and Michelle Warren. This year's seniors helped the Scarlet Knights to 40 victories, three consecutive Big Ten semifinal appearances and trips to both the Big Ten title game and NCAA Tournament during their tenure 'On the Banks.'
Coldiron put forth another standout game, finishing with 13 saves on 37 shots faced. Sophomore Payton Tini tallied her second hat trick of the season with three goals, while junior Lily Dixon dished out two assists along with four draw controls and a caused turnover. Seniors Alexa Corbin and Michelle Warren and junior Kayleigh Coughlin also added scores.
With her two assists, Dixon is now just eight assists away from setting the program's all-time single-season mark.
The Wildcats - ranked No. 3 in the latest IWLCA Coaches Poll - used a 37-20 shot advantage and a 17-7 margin on draw controls to secure their fifth conference win of the season. Madison Taylor produced a game-high seven points to pace NU's offense.
Northwestern outscored RU, 9-2, in the opening half, but Rutgers kept attacking the Wildcats' defense at spurts. Corbin found Warren for the first goal of the game, while Tini converted a free-position attempt for her first of the day. Coldiron registered eight saves before the midpoint.
The Scarlet Knights kept fighting in the second half, netting back-to-back goals from Corbin and Coughlin to cut into Northwestern's lead, 9-4. Five consecutive goals from NU put the game out of reach in the fourth quarter, but Tini closed the afternoon with two goals in the final 4:50 of play to cap her efficient scoring day.
