Two Goals from Olivia de Zwaan and Olivia Fraticelli

PISCATAWAY, N.J.- No. 17 Rutgers field hockey rallied to score the last five goals in a high action contest in the Friday noontime heat. The Scarlet Knights earned a 6-2 win over New Hampshire to improve to 4-3 on the season. RU finished strong against New Hampshire, scoring the final five goals in the contest, finishing with a season-high six scores in a 6-2 win over the Wildcats.

Freshman Olivia de Zwaan and junior Olivia Fraticelli each had a pair of goals for the Scarlet Knights. Anna Cogdell and Martha Goodridge each scored as well. The freshman Martha Goodridge recorded the first goal of her collegiate career, while de Zwaan and Fraticelli each had their first career multi-goal game. Following the high scoring outburst, de Zwaan leads RU on the year with four goals and eight points, while Fraticelli is second at three goals and seven points.

Rutgers took 27 shots (20 on goal), while the Wildcats had 15 (nine on goal). Rutgers' 27 shots was its most since taking 28 shots against Vermont in last season's opener, a 23-game span and just the second time taking 27+ shots in a game since 2021, a 70-game span. Emily Nicholls made seven saves for RU to add to her Big Ten leading stops total.

The Scarlet Knights got onto the scoreboard early with a strong individual play from Olivia de Zwaan. The freshman carried the ball from midfield through the defense, into the circle, and beating the goalkeeper for the unassisted goal.

New Hampshire, picked to win the America East in the Preseason under 35^th season head coach Robin Balducci, were sixth in the nation in goals per game last year.
Early in the second quarter, the Wildcats quickly struck twice for a pair of goals. New Hampshire lifted a long pass into the circle, the initial try from Nicole Poulakis was saved, but Kathelijne Knuttel was able to push it across the goal line for the equalizer.

Shortly after, UNH struck again, with the combination of Poulakis and Knuttel striking again. This time it was Poulakis who finished off the attacking press with a redirection in front to give New Hampshire a 2-1.

Rutgers would equalize late in the second quarter, with Maddie Kidd and Olivia Fraticelli teaming up to finish off a 2-on-1 with the goalkeeper. Fraticelli left a pass to Kidd, who circled around and sent the ball around the keeper back for Fraticelli, and she finished it off to tie the score at 2-2.

In the second half, all the goal scoring would come from the home side, as RU outscored UNH 4-0 over the last thirty minutes.

Anna Cogdell scored early in the third quarter for what was ultimately the game-winner. She finished off a true corner play, firing in a shot from the top off a stick-stop for the marker.

Goal number four for the Scarlet Knights also came off a corner. After the initial shot was saved, freshman Martha Goodridge put home the rebound for her first career goal.

In the final quarter, RU added two goals in quick succession to make the final total six. First, it was de Zwaan with her second goal of the day as she tipped in a ball from Cogdell.

The final goal saw Caroline DeKenipp get her first career point, as she set up the goal for the assist. Fraticelli put her pass home for her second goal of the day to make the final score 6-2.
