Women’s Golf Finishes Play at Paradise Invitational

BOCA RATON, Fla. – Rutgers women's golf finished its first tournament of the spring at the Paradise Invitational. Redshirt senior Grace Lu and sophomore Joline Truong both produced even scorecards to highlight action during Wednesday's final round at the Osprey Point Golf Club.
Sophomore Judy Amano was the top individual for the Scarlet Knights, finishing tied for 28th with a four-over-par 220 (75-72-73) in the 90-player field.
As a team, the Scarlet Knights improved in each of their three rounds, carding a two-over-par 290 on Wednesday. RU finished 10th in the 16-team field with a 23-over-par 887 (304-293-290). No. 24 Tennessee won the team title with a 10-under-par 854 (289-282-283), followed by No. 30 Kentucky (-6) and No. 40 Clemson (3). Tennessee's Kyra Van Kan won the individual title with a 10-under-par 206 (72-65-69)
"I am pleased with our play today in the final round," said head coach Kari Williams. "We were able to move up the leaderboard after our best team score of the event.
"Judy and Ellie were consistent for us across all three rounds despite cold and windy conditions to start the tournament. We had good practices while we were down here and will continue to work purposefully before our next event."
Round 3 – Wednesday, Feb. 4th
Weather: Sunny, Temps in the mid-60s, 5-10 mph winds
After her even scorecard on Tuesday, Amano closed out the invitational with a one-over-par 73. Amano rolled in birdies on holes eight and 18, while her 12 pars helped her close out the tournament with a top-30 finish.
Truong rebounded from Tuesday's round with an even 72 on Wednesday, firing off four birdies to finish with seven across her 54 holes. Truong moved up 10 spots on the leaderboard to close out the tournament tied for 45th. Lu also made moves after her even result, jumping 10 spots to tie for 55th. Lu joined Truong with seven birdies for the entire invitational.
"Today my play was good and I was happy that I bounced back after the opening round," Lu said. "With this being the first event of the season, I saw the strengths and weaknesses of my game and have a few things to focus on to get ready for our tournament in Arizona."
Freshman Elizabeth Ryu played the most consistent of the group, finishing tied for 33rd with a five-over-par 221 (74-74-73). Junior Emily James rounded out the team scorecard tied for 82nd, while junior Krystal Li tied for 55th competing as an individual.
Round 2 – Tuesday, Feb. 3rd
Weather: Sunny, Temps in the mid-50s, 10-2- mph winds
After her four birdies on Monday, Amano followed with an even 72 on Tuesday. Her outing included 14 pars sandwiched in between birdies on holes one and 18. Her three-over-par 147 (75-72) has her tied for 22nd after two rounds.
"Today's round was fun and I am happy I was able to contribute a good score for the team," Amano said. "On some holes, I was just trying to save pars, while some I had great looks at birdie. I will keep working hard to make more birdies tomorrow."
Lu was the biggest mover of the group, jumping 13 spots on the leaderboard thanks to her one-over-par 73, highlighted by three birdies on the back nine. Ryu remained consistent, producing a two-over-par 74 with birdies on the fourth and 18th holes to move to 28th.
Truong moved back to 55th in the field, while James carded a two-over par 74 on Tuesday to move up five spots. Li produced a two-over-par 74 and is tied for 55th.
Round 1 – Monday, Feb. 2nd
Weather: Sunny, Temps in the high 50s, 5-10 mph winds
Truong played strong in her first round of the spring, rolling in birdies on holes one, five and 15. Her three birdies and 11 pars gave her a one-over-par 73 to open her first tournament of the spring.
"While I didn't have my best game today, I was happy with my ball striking," Truong said. "We're familiar with this course and know we have the ability to post better scores. The weather and conditions will improve, and we're excited to tee it up for the second round."
Ryu also muscled an impressive opening round, birding holes seven and 11 while adding 12 pars for her one-over-par 73. Amano led the Scarlet Knights with four birdies on Monday, finishing with a three-over par 75 to sit 28th.
Lu (81) and James (82) wrapped up the team scorecard 78th and 84th, respectively. Competing as an individual, Li recorded a six-over-par 78, highlighted by a birdie on hole 15 to wrap up Monday 57th.
