Men’s Basketball Faces Minnesota in Big Ten Tournament Wednesday

PISCATAWAY, N.J. – Rutgers men's basketball earned the No. 14 seed in the Big Ten Tournament after winning six Big Ten Conference games. The Scarlet Knights will face No. 11 seed Minnesota in the opening game of the Big Ten Tournament on Wednesday.
The tournament will be held this year at the United Center in Chicago for the 29th edition of the tournament. Rutgers avoided playing in the First Round, which begins on Tuesday, by placing higher than 15th place. The Scarlet Knights first game will be game six of the tournament, in the Second Round on Wednesday. The Scarlet Knights are slated for final tipoff of the evening, scheduled for 25 minutes following game five, approximately 9 p.m. Eastern Time. The game will be nationally televised on Big Ten Network. With a victory over Minnesota, No. 6 seed UCLA awaits in the final game of the evening on Thursday night, with the winner of that contest advancing to face No. 3 Michigan State in Friday night's Quarterfinals.
This will be the third time that these two schools meet in the Big Ten tournament, and in all three times it has been the 11-14 matchup. RU fell to Minnesota, 80-68, in its inaugural Big Ten Tournament game as league members in 2015. In 2018, RU won the game 65-54.
The Scarlet Knights enter the postseason having won four of their final seven Big Ten games. After beginning league play with a 2-11 mark, RU finished the conference season at 6-14, winning their last four games by a margin of 9.5 points after taking the first two conference wins in overtime.
On Sunday, Rutgers celebrated Senior Day, honoring Emmanuel Ogbole and five senior managers. The Scarlet Knights then went out and downed Penn State 74-62 for a resounding victory to close the year.
Tariq Francis led the team at 16.9 points per game in the regular season. He reached double-figure scoring in 24 of the last 31 games, including 15 consecutively. Francis, who has made 60 of his last 64 attempts from the free throw line, is at 90.6% for the season, third best in a single season in RU history.
Lino Mark scored 16 points in the regular season finale. He has scored in double figures in six of his last eight games and is averaging 13.5 points across the last six contests.
Darren Buchanan Jr. had a career-high 13 rebounds against the Nittany Lions. The redshirt junior is at 8.5 points per game on the year with 12 double-digit outings.

Davidson transfer Bobby Durkin, who averaged 13.5 points last season, is at 10.2 ppg.
