Theofield Named Big Ten Freshman of the Week

PISCATAWAY, N.J. – Kate Theofield from Rutgers women's lacrosse was named Big Ten Freshman of the Week, the conference office announced Tuesday. The rookie picks up her second weekly conference honor after she combined for 10 points on seven goals and three assists last week in wins over No. 6 Michigan and Oregon.
Theofield becomes the first Scarlet Knight to win multiple rookie of the week awards in the same season since Payton Tini did it in 2024. The Smithtown, New York, native is second nationally among freshmen and first in the Big Ten with 40 goals this season. In 15 games, Theofield has produced 54 points on 40 goals and 14 helpers.
Theofield opened the week with three points on two goals and an assist in RU's 13-12 victory over No. 6 Michigan last Thursday in Piscataway. She followed by tying a career high with seven points on five goals and two helps in a 21-7 victory over Oregon on Sunday.
Ranked No. 22 in this week's IWLCA Coaches Poll, Rutgers faces No. 2 Northwestern on Wednesday in Evanston, Illinois. Thanks to their performance last week, the Scarlet Knights have locked up a spot in the Big Ten Tournament, held later this month in Ann Arbor, Michigan.
