Rutgers Women's Soccer Drops 1-0 Decision to Maryland
Sep 11 | Women's Soccer
COLLEGE PARK, MD – The Rutgers women’s soccer team (2-3) dropped its final match of the Maryland/adidas Classic, losing a tough 1-0 decision against the host Terps (2-3-1) Sept. 11 in College Park, MD.
The lone goal of the match came off a corner kick in the seventh minute, when Kimmy Francis sent the ball to the far corner of the six-yard box and Ashley Kennedy headed it in.
Redshirt junior Nora Crawford (McLean, VA) made six saves in goal for the Scarlet Knights (2-3).
“Aside from the goal, Maryland really didn’t get too many other opportunities from inside the area,” said sixth-year Rutgers head coach Glenn Crooks. “We had three or four good chances inside the box, but they were all right at the keeper. But, we were better today than we were on Thursday. Having this time together on our first trip of the season was really important for this team. We’re just disappointed with the results. But, we now need to come back and have a good week of training and get ready to start BIG EAST play on Friday.”
Senior Zoe Avner (Paris, France) and redshirt sophomore Meghan Ryan (Crofton, MD) were named to the Maryland/adidas Classic All-Tournament Team.
The Scarlet Knights will play their BIG EAST Conference opener Friday, Sept. 16, hosting Seton Hall at 5:30 p.m.
