Lunemann, Montero Named Recognized by ESPN The Magazine

PISCATAWAY, N.J. - Rutgers women's soccer players Nina Montero (Vineland, N.J.) and Ashley Lunemann (Hillsborough, N.J.) were named to the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-America District Two Team.
To be eligible for the award, a student-athlete must be a starter or key reserves and maintain a cumulative grade point average of at least a 3.20 on a scale of 4.00. The student-athlete must also be at least of sophomore standing.
Montero, a sophomore back for the Scarlet Knights, started 20 of the 22 games she played in this season, while Lunemann, a junior defender, saw action in 13 games this season, making three starts. Both players helped anchor a Rutgers defense that allowed just 0.51 goal-per-game. During the regular season, RU allowed just six goals and in second-half play, including overtime periods, the Scarlet Knights outscored opponents, 23-4. Montero has a 4.00 grade point average.
Rutgers finished the season with a program-best 16-3-4 record, including a mark of 8-1-2 in regular-season conference play. With 16 shutouts, the Scarlet Knights broke the single-season record for shutouts in a season and also posted the most wins in school history. Earning a spot in the BIG EAST Championship playoffs, Rutgers advanced to the title game for the first time in program history, falling to top-ranked Notre Dame, 4-2. The Scarlet Knights also earned their fourth bid to the NCAA Championship tournament in 2006, advancing to the second round.
