Scarlet Knights Fall to Top-Ranked Stanford, 4-1

PALO ALTO, Calif .- Rutgers women's soccer played the best team in the nation at the Stanford Invitational, but couldn't come away with a win, falling 4-1 to the Stanford Cardinal on Sunday. Even though they lost, the Scarlet Knights (4-2) felt they outplayed the Cardinal (6-0).
"It was an odd game," said coach Glenn Crooks. "We out-shot them 11-9, but it was one of those matches where every shot they took managed to find its way in, and we didn't finish our opportunities quite as well."
Rutgers has lost two in a row, to the number three and number one teams in the nation, but Crooks is not upset with the outcome of either game.
"Coming into this weekend, we felt we were capable of winning games at this level," said the Rutgers coach. "We played two very strong programs, and by playing them the way we did, now we know we can compete on this level."
Stanford was led by Morgan Redman, who had a goal and an assist. The lone Rutgers goal was scored by Kristie Lang (East Brunswick, N.J.), her first goal of the season.
The Scarlet Knights return to Yurcak Field when they open up BIG EAST play Friday, Sept. 21, against Seton Hall.
