PISCATAWAY, N.J. - A member of Rutgers baseball's storied past was paired up with the program's exciting future when several scholastic accolades were handed out last weekend. Scarlet Knight signee Charlie Law (Mainland, N.J.) was named the Philadelphia Inquirer's 2008 South Jersey Player of the Year, while former Rutgers standout Kevin James was named Coach of the Year by the Asbury Park Press when both publications released their yearly awards this past Sunday.
Law was recognized as the Player of the Year after leading Mainland Regional to the Cape-American II title this past season. The 6-7 right-handed pitcher finished his senior season a perfect 5-0 with a 0.66 earned run average. In 42 innings of work, Law struck out 66 batters with just 11 walks. He is also a standout at the plate, registering a .394 batting average and a .608 on-base percentage with four home runs and 19 RBI this past spring. Mainland finished the year 16-8 and a perfect 8-0 in conference action. Law was selected by the Philadelphia Phillies in the 44th round of the 2008 Major League Baseball First-Year Player Draft.
