May 19 | Baseball
OMAHA, Neb. – Rutgers baseball lost Tuesday's Big Ten Tournament opener to No. 7 Michigan by a score of 10-0 at Charles Schwab Field.
The Scarlet Knights (26-29) were unable to generate offense while the Wolverines (33-22) slugged three home runs to earn the opening-round victory in run-rule fashion.
With the loss, RU drops to the loser's bracket, where it will face the loser of No. 6 Ohio State vs. No. 11 Washington at 2 p.m. ET on Wednesday.
Michigan got going in the first with a solo home run. An RBI single in the third and two-run single in the fourth would bring it to 4-0.
The Wolverines hit back-to-back home runs in the seventh to increase the lead to 7-0 before a bases-loaded walk and two-run single would end the game at 10-0.
Rutgers will play in an elimination game on Wednesday at 2 p.m. ET against either Ohio State or Washington, with the loser being eliminated from tournament contention.
