PISCATAWAY, N.J. (Oct. 20, 2011) – In a win-and-in scenario, Rutgers women’s soccer (8-7-2, 3-5-2) faces BIG EAST in-state rival Seton Hall (8-7-2, 4-6) Friday, Oct. 21 at Yurcak Field. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. and the match will serve as Senior Night for five Scarlet Knights - Jasmine Edwards (San Diego, Calif.), Julie Lancos (Belford, N.J.), Ashley Medcalf (Waipahu, Hawaii), Casey Rupon (Whitehouse Station, N.J.) and Karla Schacher (Tofield, Alberta, Canada).
The five Scarlet Knights have led Rutgers to 70 wins and a .624 winning percentage since 2006. The game will be streamed live on RVision via www.scarletknights.com. Danny Breslauer and Adam Helfgott will have the call.
Rutgers sits in sixth place in the National Division going into Friday's match. The top five teams from each division earn a spot in the BIG EAST Championship. Currently, seven teams are eligible for the final four playoff spots. If RU wins, the squad will claim the fifth spot. If the Scarlet Knights tie, they would need Villanova to lose to Georgetown in the 3:30 p.m. Friday contest.
Sunday, Rutgers notched a 1-0 overtime victory over Cincinnati at Gettler Stadium. Ending the game in the 93rd minute, Lancos tallied her first game-winning goal since Oct. 11, 2009, completing a give-and-go with freshman Cassie Inacio (Manalapan, N.J.).
Junior goalkeeper Emmy Simpkins (Concord, N.C.) was back in net Sunday, grabbing six saves and her fifth shutout of the year. Freshman Stefanee Scholz (South Hackensack, N.J.) notched her third goal of the season against Louisville ranking her as second on the team with seven points. She leads the team in BIG EAST play with three goals and six points.
Rutgers leads the all-time series against Seton Hall by a 10-7 mark. The Scarlet Knights lost last year’s match by a score of 1-0. In 2009, Rutgers beat Seton Hall, 2-1, in overtime at Yurcak Field. OverallRU has outscored SHU 19-13.
Leading the Pirates in scoring is Katlyn Ritter and Taylor Wilson with 12 points apiece. Ritter has notched six goals, while Wilson has scored four goals and tallied four assists. In net for SHU will be junior Jennifer Pettigrew, who made 13 saves last week in the squad’s loss to Louisville.
In his fifth season at Seton Hall, head coach Kazbek Tambi joined the Pirates in 2007 after serving as the assistant men's soccer coach for nine seasons. SHU is looking for its first BIG EAST Tournament appearance since 2006.
