PISCATAWAY, N.J. (April 10, 2011) – Rutgers softball (16-21, 4-5) defeated Seton Hall (12-24, 0-11) by a score of 4-1 to complete the three-game sweep Sunday at the RU Softball Complex. The Scarlet Knights are riding a six-game win streak, the longest in the Jay Nelson era (April 7-18, 2007).

Freshman Megan Williams (Richmond, Va.) earned her second win in as many days, allowing just three hits in seven innings. The righty allowed one run (unearned), while striking out four.   

The Scarlet Knights took advantage of an early SHU error, as junior Brittney Lindley (Cicero, N.Y.) waited on a pitch and sent it back up the middle to put runners on first and third for classmate Mikelyn Messina (Prospect, Conn.). Messina took the first pitch over the right field wall for a three-run home run – her sixth of the season.

Lindsey Curran (Monroe Twp., N.J.) added to the score in the bottom of the fourth inning, blasting a solo shot over the left field wall. It was her second home run of the season.

Seton Hall fought back in the fifth inning, as Brittany Hammer and Nicole Loewenstein singled to lead off the inning. With no outs, Megan Williams helped herself with a strikeout and a line drive to the second baseman for two outs. An RU error allowed a run to score and a walk loaded the bases, but the rookie got Brittany Schillizzi to ground out.

Rutgers will be back in action Thursday, April 14 with a BIG EAST doubleheader against USF. First pitch is scheduled for 1 p.m.
