Ryan Fasano Commended by the BIG EAST
Apr 16 | Baseball
PROVIDENCE, R.I. (April 16, 2012) - Senior Ryan Fasano (Stony Point, N.Y.) has earned a spot on the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll, the conference office announced Monday. It is the first time the right-hander has been honored by the conference.
Fasano pitched 8.2 effective innings with only one run allowed to complete the three-game sweep of West Virginia on April 15. He scattered six hits and struck out five batters, while not surrendering a walk in the 115-pitch outing. The senior induced 15 groundouts on the afternoon, including a key double play in the seventh inning to escape a jam.
It was his fourth start of at least eight innings this season.
The right-hander leads the RU pitching staff with 60.2 innings worked this year and has been a versatile member, starting games on four different days of the week in addition to an appearance out of the bullpen. He also has a team-leading 37 strikeouts and has given up just seven walks.
This is the sixth week that a Rutgers baseball player has been honored by the league office. Fasano becomes the second pitcher lauded, as junior Rob Corsi (Oceanport, N.J.) took home honors on Feb. 27 and March 19.
Rutgers (19-15, 7-5 BIG EAST) steps out of the league for two upcoming midweek contests, starting with a road game at Monmouth on Tuesday, April 17 at 3:30 p.m.
