LOUISVILLE, K.Y. (November 29, 2013) - In its final contest of the 2013 season, the Rutgers volleyball team was swept by Louisville (16-25, 13-25, 19-25) in American Athletic Conference action Friday afternoon at Cardinal Arena.
Rutgers concludes the season with a 5-27 overall record and a 1-17 mark in league play. The Cardinals finished the regular season at 23-7 and a perfect 18-0 in AAC games.
Reigning American Freshman of the Week, Micaela Anderson (La Cañada, Calif.) led the Scarlet Knights with 10 kills, to notch her seventh double-digit kill performance of the year and her third in the last four games.
Sophomore outside hitter Megan Stephenson (Burbank, Calif.) finished second on the team with eight putdowns. Senior defensive specialist Tracy Wright (Fair Lawn, N.J.) came up with nine digs in her last contest as a Scarlet Knight.
For the match, Louisville finished with a .400 attack percentage, led by Maya McClendon's 16 kills. McClendon added 15 digs for a double-double.
Rutgers was held to a .133 attack percentage, but recorded its highest efficiency in the third and final frame (.276). RU stuck with the Cardinals for the majority of the set and trailed by just three points at 18-15, until the regular season AAC champs went on a 4-0 run to create separation. Louisville never looked back and allowed Rutgers to tack on just four points in the remainder of the stanza.
