PISCATAWAY, N.J.- The Long Island Sound selected Rutgers women's lacrosse assistant coach Taryn VanThof in the inaugural United Women's Lacrosse League (UWLX) all-team draft camp held at St. Joseph's University. VanThof joins fellow RU assistant coach Katie Hertsch (Philadelphia Force) as a member of an inaugural UWLX roster.
The 10-week 2016 UWLX season is slated to begin on May 28 during NCAA Women's Lacrosse Final Four weekend.
"It's awesome to be a part of history and something so great for women's lacrosse," said VanThof. "I'm extremely excited and thankful for the chance to continue to play and compete with the Long Island Sound. I look forward to playing in this league with and against these highly touted players and can't wait to reunite with a few former Team USA teammates, as well."
VanThof, a 2014-15 U.S. Women's National Lacrosse Team selection and three-time Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association (IWLCA) All-American, joined the Rutgers staff prior to the 2016 season after a standout career at Loyola University Maryland.
The midfielder recorded 108 goals and 52 assists in her career for 160 points, also collecting 127 ground balls and 318 draw controls. VanThof owns the single-season (122) and career (318) Loyola Maryland draw control record. The Greyhounds advanced to at least the second round of the NCAA Tournament in all four years of VanThof's playing career.
Hertsch, also an assistant on the RU staff, was drafted in the inaugural UWLCA Draft on April 14 by the Philadelphia Force. More information on Hersch being drafted can be found here.
