Men's Soccer Closes Out Exhibition Play at Monmouth

PISCATAWAY, N.J. – The Rutgers men's soccer team travels to Monmouth on Wednesday to meet the Hawks in its final exhibition test before the official kickoff to the 2017 season. Game time is set for 7 p.m. at Hesse Field on the Great Lawn in West Long Branch, New Jersey.

Rutgers is coming off a 1-0 exhibition win over No. 24 UConn on Sunday.
Returning leading scorer Dante Perez put away the game's lone goal in the 77th minute off the feed from redshirt junior Miles Hackett.
Goalkeepers Rafael Pereira and Joe Bruno combined for five saves to keep the Huskies scoreless.
Ten newcomers saw game action against UConn, including starts by freshmen Rafael Pereira (GK), Tyejae Burchall (D), Bryce Washington (D) and Vincent Borden (MF).

Monmouth closed out the 2016 season at 6-9-3 overall and 5-5-0 in the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference.
While the Hawks graduated leading scorer Dave Nigro (5G, 8A), Monmouth returns five of its top six scorers from a year ago. Among the returnees are redshirt senior midfielder and Second Team All-MAAC selection Colin Stripling (4G), fellow Second Team All-MAAC honoree in defender Zachary Pereira, along with senior midfielder Jake Areman (1G, 4A).
Monmouth will also have a new look in goal following the departure of four-year letterwinner Eric Klenofsky. Klenofsky, the 2016 MAAC Co-Goalkeeper of the Year and 2013 & 2014 Division I leader in goals against average, was drafted D.C. United last January.

The Scarlet Knights open the 2017 season with their first four games on the road beginning with No. 2 Wake Forest on Friday, Aug. 25 and No. 4 UNC in Chapel Hill on Sunday, Aug. 27.
