Swaby and Jamaican National Team Capture Nation's First World Cup Bid

Former Scarlet Knight Carli Lloyd and Team USA win sixth CONCACAF Championship
PISCATAWAY, N.J. – Junior back Chantelle Swaby and the Jamaican Women's National Team made history by qualifying for the 2019 World Cup, the nation's first-ever bid.
Swaby's journey with the senior national team kicked off with an unbeaten streak at the CONCACAF Caribbean Qualification, outscoring opponents 41-4 en route to claiming the title.
The Reggae Girlz carried the momentum through to the CONCACAF Women's Championship. Jamaica battled through a hard-fought, 2-0 loss to runner-up Canada before topping Costa Rica (1-0) and Cuba (9-0). It marked the country's second-ever appearance in the final four, ultimately, falling to the eventual champions U.S. in the semifinals.
In the third-place match with Panama, Jamaica scored first to ignite a rally that saw the teams tied 2-2 after two overtime periods. The Reggae Girlz triumphed in the penalty kick shootout, 4-2, to punch Jamaica's historic ticket to the World Cup.
Also, joining Swaby and Jamaica in France will be former Scarlet Knight Carli Lloyd and Team USA. The U.S. registered 26 goals and allowed zero through five games to claim the title, advancing to France for a chance to defend its 2015 World Cup title.
The 2019 FIFA Women's World Cup is set for June 7 – July 7, 2019 across the nation's host cities that include Montpellier, Nice, Valenciennes, Paris, and more.
