Women's Soccer Hosts Saint Joseph's and George Mason

Scarlet Knights kick off weekend with the Hawks on Thursday at 7 p.m.

PISCATAWAY, N.J. –  RV Rutgers women's soccer remains home at Yurcak Field to host Saint Joseph's on Thursday at 7 p.m. ET and George Mason on Sunday at 1 p.m. ET.

RUTGERS QUICK KICKS
  • Rutgers (2-0, 0-0 Big Ten) opened its season with victories over Delaware (3-0) and Drexel (2-1) last weekend.
  • Sophomore forward Amirah Ali, the 2017 Big Ten Freshman of the Year, led Rutgers with two goals, scoring in back-to-back contests and netting the game-winner against the Dragons.
  • Senior back Kenie Wright recorded an assist in back-to-back contests to lead the squad, including an assist on Ali's game-winner.
  • Freshman goalkeeper Meagan McClelland registered her first two career starts, posting a shutout in her debut and stopping six of seven shots on goal across the two matches.
  • The Scarlet Knights are receiving votes in the United Soccer Coaches and Top Drawer Soccer Polls, after opening the season ranked No. 24.
SCOUTING SAINT JOSEPH'S 
  • Saint Joseph's (2-0, 0-0 A10) opened the year with two victories, topping Temple on the road (2-1) and Lehigh at home (2-0).
  • Four different Hawks contributed to the scoring, as Morgan Bower and Hannah Racis added the game-winners. Paige Bergman led the team with two assists on the weekend.
  • Grace Bendon registered two starts in net, recording 10 saves and a shutout.
  • The Hawks posted an 11-6-3 overall record and 5-3-2 Atlantic 10 mark in 2017, returning nine starters from that squad.  
  • The series between SJU and RU is tied at 1-1, as the Hawks earned a 2-1 win in 2005 and the Scarlet Knights claimed a 1-0 victory in 2016.
SCOUTING GEORGE MASON
  • George Mason (1-1, 0-0 A10) split its opening weekend with a win over ETSU (1-0) and a loss to then-No. 25 Tennessee (4-0) on the road.
  • Gabriela Rivera recorded a goal for the Patriots, while Rebecca Callison added the assist.
  • Morgan Symmers started both matches in net, recording four saves and a shutout.
  • The Patriots finished 2017 with a record of 9-9-2 and an Atlantic 10 mark of 6-2-2, finishing third in the conference and returning five starters from the squad.
  • GMU leads the all-time series 9-5-2 dating back to 1985. After a near two-decade hiatus, the teams rekindled the series last season, when RU took a 2-0 win on the road.
