PISCATAWAY, N.J. – No. 17 Rutgers field hockey will have a split location weekend, hosting No. 7 Penn State on Friday at 3 p.m., then traveling to No. 19 Delaware for a contest Sunday at 1 p.m. Both games will be live streamed, Friday on BTN Plus and Sunday on Blue Hens All-Access. Friday's game will be the program's annual Blackout Game.Â
Rutgers enters the weekend at 7-2 overall and 1-2 in the Big Ten. The Scarlet Knights have outscored opponents 30-9, a scoring margin of 2.26 that is the 9
th best in the nation.
In between the pipes,
Gianna Glatz ranks among the top-12 in the nation in goals-against-average (1.07) and save percentage (.786).
Daphne Groothuis leads the conference and is third in the country in assists per game (0.89) and second in the Big Ten in points per game (2.22). After Groothuis, who has six goals, eight assists and 20 points,
Austyn Cuneo follows her with five goals and 12 points, while
Linde van Schaik has 10 points. Senior captain
Nikki Profita scored two goals versus No. 23 Ohio State for her first career multi-goal game. She is now tied for third on the team in goals (three) with van Schaik,
Kassidy Shetler and
Alanna Gollotto.
Penn State enters the matchup at 6-3 overall and 2-1 in the Big Ten. All three losses have come to top-10 teams, last weekend 1-0 against No. 8 Michigan, an overtime defeat to No. 6 Princeton, and a loss versus No. 4 Duke. PSU is led by reigning Big Ten Offensive Player of the Year Moira Putsch with 14 points (four goals and six assists). Jenny Rizzo in goal holds a 1.42 goals-against-average and a .809 save percentage that is fifth in the country. Penn State leads the nation in penalty corners with 9.44 per game and shares second nationally with Rutgers with five shutouts.
The Nittany Lions lead the all-time series 16-4-3. RU is looking for its first victory in the series since 1985.
Delaware enters the weekend at 4-5, having dropped five of its last seven games, which all came against ranked opponents. UD will play Drexel first on Friday night. The Blue Hens, who opened the season ranked No. 9, have made five consecutive NCAA Tournament appearances, including winning the 2016 NCAA Championship. Greta Nauck leads the team with five goals and 14 points, while Lotte de Koning has also added five tallies. Sydney Rhodes has seen the majority of the time in goal, with a 2.37 goals-against-average and .659 save percentage.
The Blue Hens lead the all-time series 19-8-3. This is the first matchup since 2011. Â Rutgers last defeated UD in 2008.
