Rutgers wins all five events to kick off the Preseason Tune-Up in Piscataway
PISCATAWAY, N.J. (Oct. 11, 2018) – Rutgers swimming and diving opened the 2019-20 season with five event victories during the first session of the Rutgers Preseason Tune-Up at the Rutgers Aquatic Center on Friday evening against Seton Hall and Rider.
Rutgers finishes the Preseason Tune-Up on Saturday, Oct. 12 at 9 a.m. with the 400 Individual Medley, 100 Butterfly, 200 Freestyle, 100 Breaststroke, 100 Backstroke, 400 Freestyle Relay, 3-Meter Diving, 1650 Freestyle, 400 Individual Medley, 200 Backstroke, 100 Freestyle, 200 Breaststroke, 200 Butterfly and 200 Medley Relay.

| THE BOTTOM LINE |
- Rutgers sits in first place heading into the Saturday session with 467 points, ahead of Seton Hall's 205 and Rider's 136.
| FIRST THINGS FIRST |
- Three Rutgers relays finished in the top three spots of the 200-yard freestyle relay. The young "A relay" of freshmen Sophia Chichaikina and Giulia Ghidini, sophomore Terka Grusova and senior Alexandra Fabugais-Inaba took first place in 1:35.32.
- Senior Francesca Bertotto claimed the 500-yard freestyle five seconds clear of the runner-up from Seton Hall in 5:02.30.
- The Scarlet Knights finished 1-2-3 in the 200-yard individual medley, led by the first-place performance of sophomore Terka Grusova in 2:08.86.
- Freshman Elinah Phillip launched her collegiate career in style with a win in the 50-yard freestyle in 23.95 seconds.
- Sophomore Megan Demeo claimed the first diving competition of the season with a score of 272.75 in 1-meter diving.
| FAST FINISHES |
- Rutgers dominated the 50-yard freestyle to close out the Friday session. The Scarlet Knights finished in positions one through nine for a total of 127 invitational points, paced by an incredible race for first among teammates. Three Rutgers rookies finished four-hundredths of a second apart, with Ghidini's 23.96 and Chichaikina's 23.99 just behind Phillips' winning 23.95.
- The 1-meter diving battle was another lopsided one with Rutgers taking spots one through five, with sophomore Jenna Douglass scoring the runner-up performance with 252.65 points.
- Fabugais-Inaba was second in the 200 IM just 0.35 seconds off the pace of teammate Grusova.
| KNIGHT NOTES |
- RU went 5-for-5 in event wins to kick off the two-day meet.
- Freshmen Sofia Chichaikina, Giulia Ghidini, Elinah Phillip, Daniela Vega, Aleksandra Ignatova, Yael Weber, and sophomore Elonora Trentin made their collegiate debuts in the pool on Friday.
