Game Recap: Field Hockey |

No. 18 Field Hockey Shuts Out UC Davis

IOWA CITY, Iowa – No. 18 Rutgers field hockey concluded a two-game trip to Iowa with a 1-0 neutral site victory over UC Davis (5-4). Freshman Rachel Houston scored a fourth quarter goal for the Scarlet Knights (5-5) to give them the victory.

HOW IT HAPPENED

Following a long weather delay to open the game, Rutgers controlled play in the opening half, outshooting UC Davis 5-1 and holding a 4-1 margin in corners. The team was unable to turn that into a goal, sending the game tied at 0-0 into the intermission.

Through the first three quarters of game action, the game remained without a goal. In the 51st minute, Melina Redlingshoefer sent a pass on the left side to Rachel Hoston, who scored what would be the game's only goal. The Aggies pressed for an
equalizer, earning three corners in the final frame, but the Scarlet Knight defense held strong to earn the victory.

NOTABLE
  • Houston's goal was her second this season.
  • Redlingshoefer's assist gives her three on the season, second on the team.
  • Goalkeeper Gianna Glatz made three saves to record her 15th career shutout and 10th solo effort.
  • Rutgers outshot the Aggies 12-6 and held a 5-4 margin on penalty corners.
  • This was the first ever matchup between the two teams.
QUOTABLE

"This win was a great response after a tough game against Iowa. I am very proud of the way our team has been able to overcome adversity and grow each week. We are looking forward to returning home and preparing for next weekend, starting Friday with Indiana."
