No. 19 Field Hockey Hosts Two Big Ten Foes this Weekend

PISCATAWAY, N.J. – No. 19 Rutgers field hockey will return home for two Big Ten Conference games this weekend. The first comes Friday, when RU hosts Indiana. Then is No. 8 Northwestern on Sunday, televised nationally by the Big Ten Network. Chris Voster (play-by-play) and Jeanne Shin Cooper (color commentary) will be on the call.

Rutgers enters the weekend at 5-5 overall, with a game Friday against Indiana ahead of the contest versus Northwestern. The Scarlet Knights have competed against an extremely tough schedule, as eight of their ten opponents have been nationally ranked at a point this season. Each of the team's losses have come against a ranked opponent, with four of the five coming to team's ranked in the top-10. The team won at No. 6 Princeton, marking its highest ranked road victory ever and tying a program best for the highest ranked team ever defeated.
RU currently has the second-toughest strength of schedule in the nation. The team has played six games against teams in the RPI top 10.
Rutgers continually competes in close games, as their last seven contests have been decided by just one goal. RU has allowed just 12 goals this season and have allowed no more than two goals in any single contest. Goalkeeper Gianna Glatz has a .786 save percentage that leads the Big Ten, as well as a 1.21 goals-against-average that is fourth in the conference.
The team has had seven different goal scorers this season, with Austyn Cuneo, Katie Larmour, Tayla Parkes and Rachel Houston all tallying multiple times.
The Hoosiers enter the matchup at 4-7 on the season and 1-3 in the conference. After opening conference play with a 4-2 win over Michigan State, IU is currently on a four-game losing streak, during which it has been outscored 19-4.
Indiana is led by Hailey Couch (seven goals, 15 points) and Kelsey Giese (four goals, four assists). In goal, Sachi Ananias has a 3.37 goals-against-average and averages 6.55 saves per game.
The Wildcats enter the weekend at 10-4, with a contest Friday at Penn State. The two squads share mutual opponents in UConn (both lost), Ball State (both won), Maryland (both lost) and Maine (Rutgers won, Northwestern lost).
The Wildcats are led offensively by Bente Baekers, who has a nation-best 17 goals and is second with 35 points. Kristen Mansfield also leads the conference with 11 assists.
Last season, the Scarlet Knights earned a 2-1 victory at Northwestern. It was the first ever win for RU over the Wildcats.
