The second-seeded Scarlet Knights shutout seventh-seeded Indiana, 1-0, to move on

PISCATAWAY, N.J. –  No. 16/14 Rutgers women's soccer advanced to the Big Ten Tournament Semifinals with a 1-0 shutout of Indiana on Sunday at Yurcak Field. The second-seeded Scarlet Knights (15-2-2, 8-2-1) topped the seventh-seeded Hoosiers (8-9-2, 4-5-2) in the quarterfinals to move on to a Friday, Nov. 8 semifinal also at Yurcak Field.

QUICK STATS
Rutgers led the attack with 11-6 shots in the game, including seven shots on goal that were saved by Indiana's goalkeeper. In turn, the Scarlet Knight defense allowed zero shots on goal for the Hoosiers.

Sophomore Meagan McClelland and the defense picked up its 12th shutout of the season in the victory.

THE MATCH
Rutgers opened on the attack, leading shots in the opening minutes. In the 28th minute RU found its best chance of the early attempts with a Nneka Moneme shot going just high of the post.

Seconds later, the Scarlet Knights put the pressure on again with another scoring drive. A cross from senior Taylor Aylmer to Moneme at the top of the box would be intercepted by an IU defender and scored into the net for an own goal.
Rutgers would hold onto the 1-0 lead for the remainder of the first half, as the Scarlet Knight back line held Indiana to just a lone shot in the opening stanza.

The Scarlet Knights offense continued to lead in shots throughout the second half, including five on goal that would be stopped by the keeper and two that would go just wide. The defense held the Hoosiers to just five shots for the remainder of the game to seal the win and advance.
