PISCATAWAY, N.J. –  Senior captain
Amanda Visco was bestowed Scholar All-America honors, United Soccer Coaches announced Wednesday. The recognition boosts a slew of academic honors over Visco's career. Student-athletes receiving Scholar All-America recognition at the NCAA Division I level achieved a 3.30 cumulative grade point average or better throughout their career, while also contributing significantly to their team.
Â
Visco, a sport management major, adds Third Team Scholar All-America to her resume, following First Team Scholar All-Region accolades earlier in the week. The three-time Academic All-Big Ten honoree was inducted into the Delta Chapter of Chi Alpha Sigma, the National College Athlete Honor Society this year.
Â
The centerback anchored a defense that posted 11 shutouts and a 0.58 GAA on the year to garner First Team All-Region and Second Team All-Big Ten honors. The captain led the back line in holding opponents to three shots or less on goal in 10 matches, including holing three Big Ten teams to just six shots or less overall in the game.
Â
The Manalapan, New Jersey, native also netted two goals, one of which was the game winner in the victory at Iowa. Visco earned her first All-Region nod and second All-Big Ten accolade of her career, having been named to the All-Freshman Team her rookie year.
Â
With the senior class, Visco helped push RU to an overall mark of 51-15-19 and a Big Ten mark of 25-7-12 in their four years "On the Banks." Visco led a backline that totaled 48 shutouts across her career. The group propelled Rutgers to four NCAA Tournaments, extending the Scarlet Knight streak to eight straight bids, 10 in 12 years and 14 appearances overall.
It marks the second Scholar All-American in the last three seasons for Rutgers, as former Scarlet Knight
Casey Murphy earned the honor in 2017. Visco and classmate
Taylor Aylmer both picked up Scholar All-Region honors this year, marking the most selections in a single season for the Scarlet Knights.Â
Â
Visco and the 2019 class lifted Rutgers to its highest ever program finish in the Big Ten, finishing as runner-up to the regular season title for the first time in 2018. The group then repeated the feat with another second-place finish in 2019, matching its most ever conference victories with eight in the league. Additionally, the group led RU to its sixth straight Big Ten Tournament since joining the league, reaching two semifinals and the championship game as freshmen.
