Scarlet Knights face fifth ranked foe in last seven outings Saturday in Ann Arbor
PISCATAWAY, N.J. – Rutgers women's lacrosse (5-8, 0-3) hits the road for its next game as it faces No. 8 Michigan (13-1, 3-1) on Saturday in Ann Arbor. The 3 p.m. contest will stream live via BTN2Go.
The No. 8 Wolverines represent the fifth ranked foe for the Scarlet Knights in their last seven outings, as RU has also faced No. 2 Maryland, No. 6 Northwestern, No. 7 James Madison and No. 18 Johns Hopkins during that span.
Last Time Out
Rutgers dropped a 15-7 result to Cornell last Tuesday at HighPoint.com Stadium. Junior Samantha Budd became the 24th player in program history to join the 100-point club for her career with her one goal and one assist against the Big Red.
Sophomore Taralyn Naslonski and freshman Marin Hartshorn each had two goals against Cornell, while senior Abbey Brooks and rookie Camryn Rogers both added scoring tallies. On defense, senior Regina Sharp caused a game-high three turnovers and freshman goalkeeper Kameron Halsall stopped nine shots.
Scouting Michigan
One of the top teams in the country, Michigan enters Saturday's game off a 14-3 loss to No. 2 Maryland last Saturday in College Park. Prior to the loss, the Wolverines owned an unblemished 13-0 record with wins over six ranked foes.
Michigan features a balanced attack, as Adriana Pendino, Lilly Grass and Caitlin Muir all lead the team with 39 points this season. Pendino is the top goal scorer with 33, while Muir has dished out a team-high 17 helpers. Mira Shane is 10-1 in cage for the Wolverines with 98 saves, a .521 save percentage and a 9.07 GAA.
All-Time Series
Rutgers is 4-0 all-time against the Wolverines, which includes a 9-8 overtime thriller last season at High Point. Paige Paratore, who scored four times - weaved past a host of defenders and netted the game winner in overtime to down Michigan.
Naslonski within the B1G
Naslonski has been one of the most productive offensive threats in the conference this season. The Randolph High School product is tied for second in points-per-game (4.23), tied for third with 1.38 assists-per-game and tied for fourth with 2.85 goals-per-game within the Big Ten.
Youth Movement
The majority if RU's offensive production has come from underclassman this season. Freshman, sophomores and juniors have accounted for 85 percent of the team's assists, 81 percent of the team's points and 79 percent of the team's goals in 2019.
