IOWA CITY, Iowa – Sophomore
Kathryn Campbell captured a top eight performance in the javelin and freshman
Reanda Richards qualified for the 400m hurdle finals to highlight the Rutgers women's track and field performances on day one of the 2019 Big Ten Outdoor Track & Field Championships hosted by Iowa.
Campbell picked up points for the Scarlet Knights in the javelin with a throw of 48.96m (160' 7") to finish sixth overall. It was not only the sophomore Scarlet Knight's PR, but also placed her name fifth all-time in the Rutgers record books. Campbell surpassed her previous best of 45.52m (149' 4") set from her title performance at this season's outdoor Metropolitan Championships at the Bauer Track and Field Complex.
Richards, who entered this weekend fourth in the country, won the opening heat of the 400m hurdles to automatically qualify for finals racing and placed second overall during the preliminaries with a time of 58.53. She will be on the blocks for finals racing at 3:28 p.m. (ET) on Sunday.
Day two of the Big Ten Outdoor track and field championships on Saturday afternoon will feature Scarlet Knights in the 100m, 800m and 3000m steeplechase, as well as the shot put and long jump.
