No. 19 Field Hockey Falls at No. 17 St. Joe’s 2-1
Sep 08 | Field Hockey
PHILADELPHIA – No. 19 Rutgers field hockey tied the score at 1-1 with an Austyn Cuneo goal in the fourth quarter, by No. 17 St. Joe's scored last to take a 2-1 win over the visiting Scarlet Knights.
The Hawks tallied first, as the home team took the lead 12:35 into the game on a breakaway goal from Jordan Olenginski. The score remained 1-0 through three quarters of action.
In the opening minute of the fourth quarter, the Sclaret Knights struck back. Tayla Parkes inserted a corner, and Austyn Cuneo converted to even the score at 1-1.
Five minutes later, St. Joe's answered back, as Kacie Patton tipped in a goal to make the score 2-1. The Scarlet Knights pressed hard late looking to tie the score. In the final three minutes of action, RU earned four corners and put five shots on net, but were unable to level the score, giving St. Joe's the 2-1 victory.
"Today's loss was frustrating. We did not connect as a team and a very good St. Joe's team took full advantage of that. We now have to prepare and be ready for a really tough game against Delaware on Friday."
- Head Coach Meredith Civico
The Scarlet Knights return to action at home on Friday against No. 16 Delaware, their third straight game against a ranked foe and fourth in five games to open the year.
