No. 22 Men’s Soccer Drops Big Ten Match to Penn State, 2-0
Oct 05 | Men's Soccer
PISCATAWAY, N.J. – No. 22 Rutgers men's soccer (7-2-2, 1-2-1) suffered a 2-0 setback to Penn State (7-3-1, 3-0-0) on Tuesday evening at Yurcak Field.

The Nittany Lions scored in each half, on a quick strike in the 40th minute and a converted penalty kick in the 83rd for the two-goal margin. Rutgers had its chances on the other end, with a 13-10 lead in shots and 4-3 edge in shots on target, but could not convert.
"Very small margins separate very good teams," said head coach Jim McElderry. "We felt when they scored their first goal, we were on top with better play. Then they add the penalty. We felt good with our chances, but these games are super tight. Penn State is a great team, and we can't feel sorry for ourselves, but we have to get back to work and start to finish in the final third."
Jackson Temple took a team-high three shots with two on goal forcing Penn State saves. Matthew Acosta and Gabriel Addo also put shots on target against Kris Shakes, who recorded the clean sheet with four saves.
Rutgers was without the services of two starters as graduate student defender Vincent Borden and senior midfielder and captain Pablo Avila both missed the contest with injuries sustained in the scoreless draw at then-No. 8 Maryland last Tuesday.
Rutgers remains home on Sunday, Oct. 10 for a Big Ten match with Michigan State at Yurcak Field in a 2:30 p.m. kick on Big Ten+.
