No. 10 Field Hockey Edged at No. 6 Michigan after Shootout
Mar 26 | Field Hockey
ANN ARBOR, Mich. - No. 10 Rutgers field hockey battled valiantly to the wire on the road against the No. 6 Michigan Wolverines, ultimately falling 1-0 after a shooutout.
The game was incredibly even throughout, with no scoring through regulation. Shots were 7-6 in favor of Michigan, with each team placing two apiece on goal. There were only three corners in the game, with RU holding that advantage 2-1.
Gianna Glatz kept the Scarlet Knights in the game late in the fourth quarter, making a save on a penalty stroke. That helped send the game into extra time.
Even two 10-minute overtime sessions were not enough to settle the score on the pitch, as the game remained deadlocked at 0-0 after 80 minutes of action. Rutgers claimed both of their corners in the second overtime, but both shot attempts were blocked.
The game went to a penalty shooutout, where Michigan prevailed 3-1 on strokes. Milena Redlingshoefer was the lone Scarlet Knight to convert on an attempt.
Having held the Wolverines scoreless prior to the penalty shootout, RU has now allowed just three field goals through seven games this season. Gianna Glatz currently holds a 0.64 goals-against-average.
RU will face the No. 6 Wolverines again on Sunday. That game will begin at noon and will be streamed on BTN Plus.
