No. 13 Women’s Lacrosse Readies for Midweek Matchup with Wagner

PISCATAWAY, N.J. – No. 13 Rutgers women's lacrosse (10-3, 2-2) hosts Wagner (5-7, 3-1) on Wednesday night in Piscataway. The midweek out-of-conference matchup is set for a 6 p.m. ET start and will stream on Big Ten Plus.
Admission to all 2022 home games is free. Parking for 2022 women's lacrosse home games is also free, but visitors must register their vehicle with the University through this link. Visitors only need to register their vehicle once for the entire season. Parking for 2022 home games is in the Scarlet Lot outside the West entrance of SHI Stadium.
Last Time Out
Graduate student Taralyn Naslonski set the program scoring record for Rutgers in its tough 21-13 loss to No. 3 Northwestern last Thursday in Evanston, Illinois. Naslonski found junior Jenna Byrne with 11:28 to go in the second quarter to pass Denise Reed (1987-90) for first on the Scarlet Knights' all-time scoring list with 233 points during her historic career "On the Banks." Naslonski now sits first on the team's all-time scoring list with 235 points on 165 goals and 70 assists.
RU went toe-to-toe with the Wildcats for most of the game and drew to within one midway through the third quarter before NU secured the win with an 8-1 scoring run in the final quarter and a half of play. The teams combined for 73 shots on the night, as Naslonski finished with a team-high six points on four goals and two assists.
Junior captain Cassidy Spilis added her team-best 10th hat trick of the season with her three goals against the Wildcats. Byrne and senior Marin captain Marin Hartshorn each added three points, while graduate student Stephanie Kelly dished out two helpers.
Junior defender Meghan Ball once again filled the stat sheet with her team-high six ground balls, five caused turnovers and five draw controls. Junior Ashley Campo and rookie Madison Karpe both caused two turnovers. Between the pipes, sophomore Sophia Cardello stopped 10 shots.

Despite its loss last week, Rutgers moved up two spots to No. 13 in the latest ILWomen/IWLCA Coaches Poll and remained at No. 14 in the Nike/USA Lacrosse Magazine Top 20. Five Big Ten programs remained in the coaches poll – No. 3 Northwestern, No. 8 Maryland, No. 13 Rutgers, No. 19 Michigan and No. 25 Johns Hopkins. Ohio State also received votes in the poll this week.
Big Ten Tournament Set for Piscataway May 6-8
Tickets for the 2022 Big Ten Women's Lacrosse Tournament, set for May 6-8 at SHI Stadium in Piscataway, New Jersey, are now on sale. The semifinals begin on Friday, May 6 at 5:30 p.m. ET, followed by the championship game on Sunday at noon.
Ball Fills Up the Stat Sheet
Junior Meghan Ball has been one of the top defenders in the country this season. The midseason All-American ranks first in the Big Ten and Fourth nationally with 2.62 caused turnovers per game, is ninth in the country with 3.15 ground balls per game and is third in the conference with 5.23 draw controls per contest. Ball leads Rutgers with 68 draw controls, 41 ground balls and 34 caused turnovers this season.
Naslonski & Spilis: One-Two Punch
Graduate student Taralyn Naslonski and junior Cassidy Spilis have both produced 44 goals this season, tied forth third in the Big Ten and 24th nationally. Naslonski has also contributed 15 helpers for a team-high 59 points, while Spilis has scored three or more goals in 10 games this spring. Naslonski's point total is 25th in the country.
Steph Kelly on the Assist
Graduate student Stephanie Kelly has dished out 31 assists this season to lead the Big Ten and sit sixth nationally in the category. Kelly is second on the team with 49 points with her 31 helpers and 18 goals. After her standout career at St Joseph's, Kelly owns 286 points on 145 goals and 141 assists. Her 286 points are ninth amongst active players in the country.
Scouting Wagner
The Seahawks lost their last game at Mount St. Mary's, 15-4, on April 6 to snap a three-game winning streak. Wagner is 3-1 in NEC action, with RU representing the program's last out-of-conference meeting before it heads back to NEC action.
Kasey Dorney and Madeline Seims have both produced 30 points on 24 goals and six assists to lead the Seahawks. Dorney has also secured 39 draw controls, 34 ground balls and 23 caused turnovers, while Aileen Hannan leads the team with 42 ground balls and 25 caused turnovers. Lauren DiStefano has stopped 120 shots for a 10.67 goals against average and a .502 save percentage.

Rutgers won the only previous matchup with Wagner by a 21-0 margin on April 22, 1997 in Piscataway.
