WEST POINT, N.Y. — No. 7/8 Rutgers men's lacrosse came up short against Army, 14-13, in a competitive noncoference contest on Saturday afternoon.
Senior captain Ross Scott led the way for the Scarlet Knights, netting five goals and adding one assist. Senior Brian Cameron and junior Jack Aimone added three and two goals, respectively.
David Sprock, Dante Kulas, and Noah Daniels also added one goal each for Rutgers. Senior goalkeeper Kyle Mullin recorded 11 saves.
The Scarlet Knights forced 15 Army turnovers and were successful on 13-of-18 clear attempts.
Game Summary
Sprock gave Rutgers an early 1-0 lead with a goal in the game's first minute. Army responded with four goals, three of them within two minutes of each other. Kulas added a goal with two minutes remaining in the first quarter, making the score, 4-2, heading into the second.
After the Black Knights opened the scoring in the second quarter, Ross Scott and Jack Aimone provided two quick goals each, reclaiming the lead with 9:20 to play in the half. Army ended the half with a four-goal run, taking a 9-6 lead into halftime.
Army added the first goal of the third quarter at the 6:32 mark. With just over one minute remaining in the quarter, Cameron and Scott both scored. RU was down, 10-8, heading into the final 15 minutes of play.
The Scarlet Knights netted three goals in less than two minutes to even the score, 12-12, with 8:55 to play in the contest. The Black Knights responded quickly, earning a 13-12 edge six seconds after RU's game-tying goal.
Scott provided an equalizer at the 5:34 mark, but two minutes later Army scored the game-deciding goal. The Scarlet Knights fell, 14-13.
