Casey Murphy Wins SheBelieves Cup with USWNT

FRISCO, Texas – Former Scarlet Knight Casey Murphy and the U.S. Women's National Team won the 2023 SheBelieves Cup, presented by Visa. Murphy started in the 1-0 victory over Japan on Feb. 19, making two pivotal saves to record her ninth career clean sheet with the USWNT. The win propelled the United States to its fourth consecutive - and sixth overall - SheBelieves title.
Murphy earned her 13th cap with the national team. The final 10 minutes saw Murphy's strong goalkeeping preserve the clean sheet for the USWNT. After Fuka Nagano pinged a shot off the top of the crossbar in the 79th minute, Murphy made two quality saves to deny Yui Hasegawa and Jun Endo in the 81st and 92nd minutes, respectively, sealing the 1-0 win and the ninth shutout of her young career.
It is the second consecutive SheBelieves Cup for Murphy with the USWNT, earning two shutouts en route to the title in 2022. The U.S. clinched the 2023 SheBelieves Cup title – its fourth in a row and sixth overall – with a 2-1 victory against Brazil in front of 17,784 fans on the final match day of the 2023 SheBelieves Cup on Feb. 22.
A Scarlet Knight from 2014-17, Murphy graduated as one of the most decorated players "On the Banks". The Rutgers record holder with 45 career clean sheets was named a two-time All-American, two-time All-Big Ten, and two-time All-Region honoree across her collegiate career. In the classroom, Murphy earned Scholar All-America and Academic All-Big ten recognition. The two-time Big Ten Goalkeeper of the Year added recognition as a MAC Hermann Trophy Semifinalist, awarded to the National Player of the Year, to a long list of accolades.
Murphy is also a member of the National Women's Soccer League (NWSL) with the NC Courage, having been drafted into the league in 2018. She is set to begin the NWSL season alongside eight fellow Rutgers women's soccer alumni in March 2023.
