No. 11 Men's Lacrosse Undone at No. 5 Penn State

STATE COLLEGE, Pa. – No. 11 Rutgers men's lacrosse concluded the regular season with a loss at No. 5 Penn State. The Nittany Lions claimed a 14-5 win. Rutgers fell to 8-5 and 1-4 in the Big Ten while Penn State improved to 9-3 and clinched a share of the Big Ten title at 4-1 in conference play. The game was played in front of 1,749 fans at Panzer Stadium.
Rutgers five goal scorers were Shane Knobloch, Jack Aimone, David Sprock, Eric Civetti and Jack Stahanczyk. Rutgers held the stat sheet advntange in shots, ground balls and faceoffs won. On defense, Ethan Rall caused three turnovers and Bobby Russo forced two.
Penn State got out to an early 5-0 lead. Eric Civetti added a tally late in the opening quarter, off a Ross Scott assists, and the home team held a 5-1 lead after 15 minutes.
RU started the second quarter with a bouncing goal from Jack Aimone. RU earned the first man-up opportunity of the game, and just as it ended, David Sprock whistled in a goal for the third straight tally from the visitors, getting RU back within two with a three-goal run.
The Nittany Lions answered back with the last two goals of the first half, leading 7-3 at the break. RU led in shots, ground balls and faceoffs, but trailed by four at the break.
PSU added to their lead right out of the gate in the third quarter, extending it to 8-3. RU broke that streak with a Shane Knobloch goal, as he wrapped around the cage for an unassisted tally. After three quarters, PSU led 9-4. The NIttany Lions grabbed two early goals in the fourth quarter to seize control of the game.
Senior defenseman Jack Stahancyzk scored the first goal of his career in the fourth quarter, finishing off a transition play. Stahancyzk also matched his previous career high in ground balls with six.

The Big Ten Tournament begins next weekend. RU will finish tied for fifth in the conference and play a road game. Rutgers and Ohio State tied for fifth, and as OSU won the head-to-head matchup, RU will be the sixth seed. The Scarlet Knights will drive down to the state of Maryland to play the No. 3 seed, which will be the loser of Saturday's Maryland – Johns Hopkins game.
