PISCATAWAY, N.J. - No. 14 Rutgers men's lacrosse is set to begin postseason play. The Scarlet Knights will play in the Big Ten Tournament Quarterfinals this weekend. As the No. 6 seed, they will play at No. 3 seed Maryland. With a win, they would advance to the Semifinals, hosted by Johns Hopkins next week at Homewood Field in Baltimore. The seeding would have RU set to play at No. 2 seed Johns Hopkins with a win.
ABOUT THE SCARLET KNIGHTS
Rutgers stands at 8-5 following the regular season and were 1-4 during Big Ten Conference play.
The Scarlet Knights had three players earn all-conference awards this week. Shane Knobloch, Ethan Rall and Ross Scott were named Second Team All-Big Ten. Rall earned the third All-Big Ten honor of his career, while Knobloch and Scott earned the accolade for the second straight season. In addition, Jack Aimone was named the team's Big Ten Sportsmanship Award winner.
Rutgers remains first nationally in turnovers (12.15/game). The team leads the league in caused turnovers at 8.46.
RU is at No. 11 in the RPI following their last game. They have five wins against the top-30 in the RPI, with wins over No. 15 Utah, No. 16 Princeton, No. 19 Michigan, No. 26 UMass and No. 29 Loyola.

A win over No. 7 Maryland would represent:
• Fourth ranked win of the season.
• Second top-10 win of the season.

Maryland, seventh in both the media poll and RPI, enters the matchup at 8-4 overall, and went 3-2 in Big Ten play to earn the No. 3 seed. The Terps, 5-2 in their last seven, fell 12-11 last time out to rival Johns Hopkins to miss a chance at a bye and share of the league crown. UM is 1st nationally in clearing percentage and sixth in faceoff winning percentage.
Brett Makar was named Big Ten Defensive Player of the Year. Braden Erksa was named Big Ten Freshman of the Year. Makar joined faceoff specialist Luke Weirman and fellow defenseman Ajax Zappitello were named to the All-Big Ten First Team.

Since joining the Big Ten, the Terps are the only Big Ten opponent that RU have not beaten. In that span, they have seven wins over Ohio State, eight wins over Michigan, six over Johns Hopkins and four over Penn State.
