
Men's Soccer Tripped Up At Michigan

ANN ARBOR, Mich. – The Rutgers men's soccer team (2-4-2, 0-1-1 B1G) fell to Michigan (2-3-3, 1-0-1 B1G) in its Big Ten road opener, 3-2. Erick Ruiz and Jackson Temple scored in the opening half but Michigan came through with three second half goals to seal the victory.
Rutgers came out hot, with a goal in the third minute. Curt Calov connected with Ruiz for the first score of his collegiate career.

Temple followed it up in the 20th minute, with help from Jason Bouregy, with another goal to give the Scarlet Knights a 2-0 lead at the half.

Just a few minutes into the second half, Michigan broke through to cut RU's lead in half, 2-1. The Wolverines added on two more goals to come away with the 3-2 win.

Game Notes
- Ruiz's goal was the first of his college career. He now leads the freshmen group with two points. Nick Collins and Devon Stopek have also each earned a point this season.
- Temple continues to pace the team with four goals, after a score Friday night, in addition to 10 points.
- Calov paced Rutgers with six shots against UM and three shots on goal.
- Dalton leads the goalkeeper unit with 19 total saves. He has made 3+ saves in five matches this season.
- The freshmen continued to show out as Erick Ruiz and Collins earned their fifth consecutive starts on defense. Devon Stopek and Luciano Sanchez also entered the game off the bench, playing big minutes. The group of four rookies have already collectively played 1,345 minutes on the pitch and combined for 14 starts.
- Collins, Joey Zalinsky and Matthew Acosta played all 90 minutes of the match.
Looking Ahead
Rutgers will come back "On The Banks" to welcome Ohio State on Friday, Sept. 29 at 7 p.m. RU will host Friday Night Lights: Rutgers Soccer. The squad will celebrate New Jersey Youth Soccer Night as well, welcoming back kids from around the state.
