Nov 11 | Women's Soccer
PISCATAWAY, N.J. – Rutgers women's soccer has earned a berth into the NCAA Tournament for the 13th consecutive season. Earning a No. 6 seed, Rutgers will host UConn in the first round on Sat., Nov. 16 at 5 p.m. at Yurcak Field.
The Scarlet Knights continue on a longstanding tradition of NCAA Championships soccer, making the bracket for the 15th time in the last 17 years, and 19th time overall. The Scarlet Knights have been ranked or receiving votes for 17 straight seasons at any point during a campaign. The team enters the NCAA Tournament at No. 33 in the latest RPI rankings.
A first round win would advance Rutgers into a second round matchup with the winner of three-seed and No. 14 ranked Stanford and UC Santa Barbara. The second round could potentially be hosted by two-seed and No. 5 ranked Arkansas if they advance out of the first round.
The Scarlet Knights are 11-4-5 overall, finished fifth in the new 18-team Big Ten Conference, and advanced to their fourth Big Ten Tournament Championship after advancing past top-seeded and No. 4 ranked USC in a 3-0 penalty shootout in the semifinal. Rutgers put together seven consecutive shutouts during the 2024 season spanning 650 minutes of scoreless defense, its longest clean sheet streak since 2017.
Rutgers owns three RPI Top 50 wins over No. 22 Michigan State, No. 28 Wisconsin, and No. 50 Washington, with the first two coming away from home and the second two by way of shutout. Rutgers earned 1-1 draws against four teams ranked in the top 16 of the RPI rankings as Selection Monday (No. 5, USC, No. 7 Wake Forest, No. 8 Penn State, and No. 22 Michigan State). Three of those four draws were away from home.
Rutgers heads back to the NCAA Tournament with proven experience, with six members from the 2021 Big Ten Championship and College Cup squad. The Scarlet Knights were honored with three All-Big Ten selections with Emily Mason on the First Team, Riley Tiernan on the Second Team, and Shaela Bradley on the All-Freshman Team. Goalkeeper Olivia Bodmer was named to the Big Ten All-Tournament Team. Tiernan currently ranks fifth in the NCAA with her 11 total assists this season.
