PISCATAWAY, N.J. – Nick Collins of the No. 13 Rutgers men's soccer team has been named Big Ten Defender of the Week.
The weekly honor is the first of Collins's career and the third this season for RU, as Joschi Schelb was named Co-Offensive Big Ten Player of the Week on Sept. 2, and Ciaran Dalton was named Goalkeeper of the Week on Sept. 16.
He is also the first Scarlet Knight to win the honor since Joey Zalinsky (Aug. 27, 2024).
Collins helped Rutgers to a 4-2 win over Wisconsin on Friday, Sept. 10, the team's third Big Ten victory and sixth win at Yurcak Field. The junior scored the game-winner over the Badgers with a header off a corner kick for Schelb.
Collins's goal marks his second of the season and third of his career. The defender ranks fifth on the team with six total points.
The Mount Olive, N.J. native has started all 12 games for the Scarlet Knights this season and played the second most minutes (1069), only behind Ciaran Dalton.
Collins has been a big part of RU's five shutouts this season, playing a pivotal role in the middle of the backline.
Looking Ahead
Rutgers will host No. 22 Washington on Friday, Oct. 17 at 7 p.m. for Letterwinner Night. As part of Homecoming weekend, the Rutgers Boardwalk will be open from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m.
