PISCATAWAY, N.J. – Rutgers men's lacrosse had four players tabbed as Preseason All-Americans as USA Lacrosse unveiled their Division I Men's Preseason All-Americans on Tuesday. Ryan Splaine (Second Team), Joe Juengerkes (Third Team), Colin Kurdyla (Honorable Mention) and Cardin Stoller (Honorable Mention) were named Preseason All-Americans in the listing.
Ryan Splaine was tabbed as a Second Team Preseason All-American as the second highest long-stick midfielder listed. Splaine was previously recognized by the same publication as an Honorable Mention All-American last season. The native of Rockville, Md. was a Second Team All-Big Ten and All-ECAC selection last year after collecting 49 ground balls with 17 caused turnovers. The senior boasts 39 games of experience 'On the Banks' with 109 ground balls, 37 caused turnovers, six goals and an assist. Splaine is seeking to continue a strong tradition of long-stick midfielders at RU, with Ethan Rall, Kyle Pless and Zack Sikora previously earning All-American recognition under head coach Brian Brecht, alongside other key contributors at the LSM spot such as Garrett Bullett, Garrett Michaeli and Zach Massesa.
Juengerkes returns to RU for a second season in 2026 as a graduate student and team captain. In 2025, in his first year in a Scarlet Knight uniform following a transfer from Princeton, he was named an Honorable Mention All-American by three publications, and was a Second Team All-Big Ten selection. The Islip, N.Y. native and two-time team captain had seven goals, four assists, 55 ground balls and 16 caused turnovers as a short-stick defensive midfielder, and was the Rutgers Lacrosse Knight Cup winner.
Kurdyla was an All-American, Second Team All-Big Ten selection and Big Ten All-Tournament team member last season. A local product from Bridgewater-Raritan High School, just a 20-minute drive to campus, Kurdyla was ranked No. 34 in the Inside Lacrosse Preseason Top 50 Players List entering this year. After moving from midfield to attack, he led the team with 27 goals and 40 points (13 assists), ranking seventh in the Big Ten in goals per game. In two years, he has scored 47 goals and added 23 assists for 70 points in 30 career games.
Stoller, the Scarlet Knights netminder, was last season named an All-American, First Team All-Big Ten, ECAC Defensive Player of the Year, All-ECAC, and was on the Top-25 for the Tewaaraton Award Watch List. The Owings Mills, Md. native was just ranked No. 49 on the Inside Lacrosse Preseason Top 50 Players List. Last season, he had a 8.85 goals-against-average and 56.7% save percentage. Stoller was 7th in the nation in goals-against-average and 12th in the nation in save percentage. He had 182 saves. In 2024, he was the Big Ten Freshman of the Year with 173 saves, making 355 career stops. He was named the national Player of the Week last season after allowing just six goals and scoring a goal himself in the program's monumental victory over No. 2 Maryland.
Preseason All-Americans are selected by USA Lacrosse Magazine staff and contributors with input from collegiate coaches. The Scarlet Knights were also ranked by the publication as the No. 15 team nationally in their preseason rankings.
Rutgers did not have any players named Preseason All-Americans last season. The last time RU had a Preseason All-American was in 2024, the duo of Shane Knobloch and Ross Scott. Rutgers has now had multiple preseason All-Americans in four of the past five years, with the four Preseason All-Americans this year the most in that span.
