Softball Bested By Penn State In Series Opener

PISCATAWAY, N.J. – Rutgers softball dropped the series opener with Penn State on Friday night at the RU Softball Complex as the Nittany Lions bested the Scarlet Knights, 8-0.

The loss dropped RU to 17-16 overall and 3-7 in Big Ten action.

STATISTICALLY SPEAKING

Sophomore Baileigh Burtis went 2-for-3.
Classmate Kassandra Gewecke fell to 5-8 on the year giving up two earned runs, while fanning two, in three innings of work.

THE RUNDOWN

Penn State got onto the scoreboard in the top of the third with a trio of runs. Allison Oneacre connected for a two-run home run into left center and two batters later, Jordan George was able to secure an RBI single up the middle.
Three more runs came across for the Nittany Lions in the fifth. Oneacre went yard once again for her second two-run home run while Gabby Gradishar added an RBI single before the infield was able to lock in the third out on a run down.
PSU added a run in the sixth and the seventh for the final margin. Natalie Lieto had a solo shot to left in the sixth while Frankee Flesher led off the seventh with a double and score on a Macy Chamberlin single up the middle.
