Junior Attackman Joins Cardin Stoller on Watch List for Top Award in Collegiate Lacrosse
PISCATAWAY, N.J. – Rutgers junior attackman Colin Kurdyla was named to the Tewaaraton Award Watch List, it was announced on Thursday. Kurdyla was added to the Watch List in the organization's first round of additions, joining teammate Cardin Stoller, who was put on the Watch List in the preseason.
Kurdyla has been the team's leading scorer this season, leading the team with 14 goals, nine assists and 23 points. The Bridgewater, N.J. native is third in the Big Ten in points per game (3.83), sixth in assists (1.50) and eighth in the league in goals per game (2.33). This season, he has four multi-goal games, five games of at least three points, and three games with at least three goals. Kurdyla enters this week's game against Princeton with 61 career goals and 32 assists for 93 career points across 36 collegiate games.
Kurdyla was recognized in the Preseason as a Preseason All-American, Big Ten Preseason Player to Watch, and was No. 34 on Inside Lacrosse's national Top Players List. Kurdyla is coming off a season where he scored 27 goals and had 40 points, earning All-American and All-Big Ten honors.
Kurdyla joins with goalkeeper Cardin Stoller as members of the Watch List for the accolade, ecognized as the preeminent lacrosse award, annually honoring the top male and female college lacrosse player in the United States. This is the 12th consecutive season that Rutgers has had at least one player on the Watch List. Adam Charalambides, Kieran Mullins, Ross Scott, Shane Knobloch and Jules Heningburg were all on the watch list multiple times, while Ethan Rall, Connor Kirst, Colin Kirst, Mitch Bartolo, Michael Rexrode, Scott Bieda and Joe Nardella have been recognized in that span. Also previously recognized were Will Mangan, Justin Pennington, Chris O'Dougherty and Greg Havalchak.
There will be one more Watch List on March 26 before the field will be narrowed to 25 men's and 25 women's nominees on April 16. Nominees can be players from the Watch Lists or not from the Watch Lists, effectively allowing for a third round of additions. Five men's and five women's finalists will be announced in early May. The Tewaaraton Award recipients will be chosen after the conclusion of the collegiate lacrosse season. The Finalists will be honored and this year's recipients announced live on May 28 at the Tewaaraton Ceremony in Washington, D.C.
Kurdyla and the Scarlet Knights are in action this Saturday on the road at No. 3 Princeton. RU will face the Tigers for the Meistrell Cup in the 102nd edition of the in-state rivalry game at noon.
