Jake Padilla recently completed his second season working with Rutgers men's lacrosse. Padilla is the volunteer assistant coach, working primarily with the goalies and face-off men. He also assists in all aspects of practice and in the office on a daily basis.
In his second season at RU, the team compiled a 9-6 record record, marking a 19-10 stretch over Padilla's first two years on staff. Goalkeeper Max Edelmann, playing every minute in the cage, compiled a 9.52 goals-against-average and .500 save percentage. He also mentored a duo of seniors, Joe Francisco and Alex Schoen, at the faceoff X.
In his first season at Rutgers in 2017, Rutgers was 10-4. Padilla mentored goalkeeper Max Edelmann to a Second Team All-Big Ten performance. Edelmann posted a .532 save percentage and 8.91 goals-against average.
Padilla also worked with the face-off specialists. His first season saw primary faceoff man Joe Francisco improve from a 43% winning percentage at the X (80-of-186) in 2016 to a 57 percent clip (164-of-284) in 2017.
Padilla came to “The Banks” from the Midwest, where he was last the recruiting director and offensive assistant at Oberlin College in Ohio. He also worked as the recruiting director and defensive assistant at Wabash College in Indiana.
Padilla brings a vast background working at the high school and club level. He has multiple years coaching at the high school level in Illinois, and also worked with multiple club teams in the Chicago area. Padilla played his college lacrosse as an attackman for Hobart.
