Madison Richard enters her 10th season on staff in 2025. Rutgers women's soccer welcomed back the former Scarlet Knight, then Madison Tiernan, to the program as Director of Player Development in 2017. Following a stint as Volunteer Assistant Coach starting in December of 2020, Richard was elevated to Assistant Coach in January of 2022.Â
Across her time on staff, Richard has helped guide Rutgers to nine Big Ten Tournaments, four Big Ten Tournament finals, and nine NCAA appearances. With the staff in 2021, Richard aided the Scarlet Knights in bringing home the first ever Big Ten Conference title in program history and Rutgers history, going undefeated 10-0 in league play. Following its third Big Ten Tournament Championship appearance, RU secured its 10th straight NCAA Tournament bid, advancing to the College Cup for the second time in program history and first since 2015 when Richard was a student-athlete on the team. Richard and the coaching staff were named the 2021 Regional Staff of the Year by United Soccer Coaches following the historic campaign.Â

2013-16, concluding her senior season with a team-high 28 points on 11 goals and six assists. The team captain earned NSCAA Second Team All-Great Lakes Region and Second Team All-Big Ten honors in 2016, wrapping up her career "On the Banks" ranked second all-time in shots (275), tied for fifth in game-winning goals (nine), sixth all-time in total goals (25), and seventh all-time in points (66).
During her time on the pitch, Richard guided the Scarlet Knights to three conference championship games, including two Big Ten Tournament Championships. In 2015, she led Rutgers all the way to the College Cup for the first time, knocking off the No. 1 ranked team in the nation along the way.

Following her collegiate career, Richard was drafted 24th overall by local NY/NJ Gotham FC, formerly Sky Blue FC, of the NWSL. At the time, the club played home matches at Yurcak Field - the home of Rutgers women's soccer. She announced her retirement from professional soccer in the summer of 2020.Â
Richard has coached for PDA, one of the top youth girls clubs in the country for the last four years. Under her guidance, her teams have achieved great success on the national stage.Â
The Voorhees, New Jersey, native earned a B.A. in American studies from Rutgers with a minor in education as a social science. Richard resides in Matawan with her husband, Ned, and their son, Grady.
