Rutgers Field Hockey Drops 2-0 Decision to Boston University

PRINCETON, NJ – The Boston University Terriers scored a goal in each half – both coming off penalty corners – and earned a 2-0 victory over Rutgers on Sunday afternoon at Princeton’s Class of 1952 Stadium.
With under 10 minutes to play in the first half, BU (6-4) netted the games first goal when senior captain Lauren Vendetti beat RU goalie Rosalyn Wentko (Dallas, PA). Colleen McKay and Adrienne Scibilla picked up assists on the play.
Rutgers (4-9) quickly pressed for the equalizer, and had several scoring chances on five penalty corners. Trailing 1-0 at halftime, the Scarlet Knights kept BU at bay thanks to the play of their defense, led by senior Tiffany Klebez (Milford, PA) and junior Heather Graver (Vincentown, NJ), and a solid performance in goal from Wentko, who made her first collegiate start and registered seven saves.
The Terriers scored an insurance goal seven and a half minutes into the second half when Jennifer Joyce redirected a shot by Vendetti on a penalty corner.
“It probably sounds like a broken record, but I thought we played well enough to win,” said head coach Liz Tchou. “It’s a lot of fun to coach this group as it buys into our team philosophy. We have to continue to work on finishing our scoring chances. Overall, though, the past two games have given us something to feel very good about.”
Boston University outshot Rutgers 10-7, but the Scarlet Knights held a 10-5 advantage in penalty corners. BU goalie Erin Prediger made three saves.
Rutgers returns to action on Saturday, Oct. 9, as it travels to Hartford, CT, to face Providence in a critical BIG EAST contest at Trinity College. Gametime is set for noon.
