Rutgers Field Hockey Falls to No. 2 Maryland 7-1

The Terrapins opened up the scoring in the first minute of the game when Jackie Ciconte found the back of the net off of a rebound. Maryland went on to score four more goals before the first half ended.
In the 52nd minute, the Scarlet Knights got their lone goal from senior co-captain back Kara Spector (Easton, MD). Sophomore midfielder Jocelyn Mattina (Bethlehem, PA) pushed an RU penalty corner to sophomore midfielder Corrine Bach (Moorestown, NJ), who set up Spector for her fourth goal of the season and put Rutgers on the board.
The Terrapins added two goals after the Spector score to seal the victory, 7-1.
Sophomore goalie Rosalyn Wentko (Dallas, PA) faced 21 Maryland shots and finished with six saves.
With the loss, the Scarlet Knights fall to 6-6 on the season and are 0-2 in the BIG EAST. With the win, the No. 2 Terrapins improve to 12-1 on the season and have won two consecutive matches after losing to top ranked Wake Forest last week.
The Scarlet Knights will be back in action on Friday, Oct. 7, when they host the Providence Friars at 7:30 p.m. at the RU Stadium Complex.
