PISCATAWAY, N.J. - Rutgers' field hockey player Kristen Johnson (Lake Ronkonkoma, N.Y.) was named to the Womensfieldhockey.com All-Rookie Squad, the organization announced.
Johnson had a standout rookie season for the Scarlet Knights, a year in which she started 17 of the team's 18 games and finished second on the team in goals (6) and third in assists (12). Johnson had several big games for Rutgers, including a game in which she scored one goal and recorded two assists as RU beat Delaware in double-overtime, 5-4, on Sept. 10, and an Aug. 27 game in which she added a goal and an assist in RU's 6-3 defeat of West Chester.
Johnson was one of 10 rookies on the 2006 squad, a team that was without a senior on its roster. Head coach Liz Tchou was encouraged with the improvement she saw from her team as the season progressed.
"We were a young team," Tchou said. "We got better throughout the season and we improved in a short amount of time. With everyone returning next season, we just have to work hard and get ready for next year."
