PISCATAWAY, N.J. - Rutgers' field hockey player Amy Lewis (Hainesport, N.J.) was named to the All-BIG EAST First-Team, the conference announced Thursday night at its annual awards banquet. Lewis earned the first conference honors of her career following a season in which she finished second in the conference in goals (21) and third in both goals-per-game and game-winning goals.
Lewis started all 18 of Rutgers' games this season and finished with a team-high 21 goals. The sophomore midfielder had two four-goal performances this season, the first in RU's 5-3 win at West Chester on Aug. 27, and the second coming in a 5-4 win over Delaware on Sept. 10. She also led the team in points with 43.
For her efforts this season, Lewis was also named to the BIG EAST Weekly honor Roll on four separate occasions and with her 21 goals, Lewis now stands in third-place on RU's record list for goals-scored in a single season. Lewis' 43 total points also places her in third on the all-time single-season list for points.
Head coach Liz Tchou couldn't have been happier for Lewis.
"It's an unbelievable honor," Tchou said. "It's rare to have a second-year player garner first-team BIG EAST honors. Amy had a great season and she really became a leader on the field. It's a testament to our team that we've been able to improve throughout the season to give Amy all those scoring opportunities. I'm very proud of her and she's only going to get better."
