PISCATAWAY, NJ - High school seniors Bill Olin (Elmira, NY) and Hunter Burnard (Binghamton, NY), who will enroll at Rutgers University next fall as members of the men's lacrosse team, were recently honored with national and regional recognition.
Burnard was named a US Lacrosse High School All-American while Olin was named to the Section 4 All-Star Division I First Team.
Burnard, a midfielder who played for Binghamton High School, was selected through a vote of Section 4 coaches. Each league across the country is allotted one All-American for every five teams.
He is a four-year starter who had 58 goals and 64 assists during his sophomore and junior seasons. A First Team All-League choice after scoring 43 goals and adding 26 assists last spring, Burnard was an Empire State Game alternate selection and also earned the WBNG-TV Scholar-Athlete Award.
This year, Burnard led Binghamton to the Section 4 Division I title game against Corning East, finishing with two goals and two assists in the final game.
Olin had 333 saves, a .690 save percentage and 76 ground balls as a junior for Horseheads High School. He is a two-time Central Empire Team selection who owns school records for saves in a game, season and career. This year as a senior, he set the New York state record for career saves.
Last week, he was named to the Under Armor Boy's Lacrosse All-America team and will compete in the Under Armor All-America Lacrosse Classic on June 18 at Towson University.
Rutgers finished 5-9 overall in 2006 but played in six one-goal games, winning just two of those contests. The Scarlet Knights featured as many as six freshmen in its lineup against a schedule that included games against four NCAA Tournament teams, two of which advanced to the Final Four (Syracuse, Massachusetts). RU will return eight of 10 starters next spring and add a talented freshman class.
