Rutgers Field Hockey Falls to Lafayette, 2-0
Oct 18 | Field Hockey
EASTON, Pa. – Rutgers field hockey dropped a 2-0 decision at Lafayette on Sunday afternoon. The Scarlet Knights could only muster two shots and three penalty corners on the afternoon.
The game remained scoreless until the Leopards (11-4) found the back of the cage at the 21:48 mark of the first half. Meghan Cicchi fired a shot which was deflected out and to the stick of Kelly Hilovsky, who had originated the corner. Hilovsky scored what would be the eventual game-winner.
Lafayette added an insurance goal in the second half on a breakaway opportunity by Deanna DiCroce. RU freshman goalkeeper Vickie Lavell (Haddon Township, N.J.) came out to take down the angle and instead collided with DiCroce. Awarded a penalty stroke, the Leopards freshman put the ball into the upper left corner of the box to give the home team a 2-0 lead in the 55th minute.
Rutgers (2-14) returns home on Saturday, Oct. 24 to host BIG EAST rival Connecticut. Game time is set for 1:00 p.m.
