LOUISVILLE, Ky. – Rutgers field hockey fell behind early and could not sustain a Louisville first half offensive surge, dropping a 6-1 contest at Trager Stadium on Friday afternoon.
Junior midfielder Jenna Bull (Oakville, Ontario) scored her third goal in two games but that was the only score for the Scarlet Knights (1-10, 0-3 BIG EAST).
Rutgers was outshot 18-5 in the contest, including an 11-1 deficit in the first half. The Cardinals (6-4, 1-2 BIG EAST) erupted for four goals in the first half with two coming from Kayla May.
Bull tallied her goal- a shot from the top of the circle- off an assist from senior Brittany Bybel (Millville, N.J.) in the 49th minute.
UofL would add to the lead in the 59th minute, scoring two goals in a 23-second span to push the game out of reach.
Freshman goalkeeper Vickie Lavell (Haddon Township, N.J.) had eight stops in just over 59 minutes in the cage.
RU faces Michigan State on Saturday, Oct. 3 in Louisville. The Scarlet Knights are 3-4-1 all-time versus the Spartans.
